The MKAL is back! The MKAL is my annual Mystery Shawl Knit Along and this year’s shawl is called is called Twists & Turns. We will cast on the Twists & Turns mystery shawl on October 6 and knit together throughout the month of October as I release a section of the pattern each week until the final design is revealed. The Mystery Shawl is a complete surprise, so when you sign up by purchasing the pattern, you only know what types of yarn and needles you need as well as some color recommendations.

When you purchase this pattern, you will receive an introductory PDF containing all the yarn information and details for the MKAL. You will receive the first instructions for the pattern on Thursday, October 6. Then, you will receive a section of the mystery shawl pattern each week until the final design is revealed on October 27.
KITS

We will ship kits in mid-September in plenty of time to arrive before the cast on party on October 6.

YARN
This year's shawl features 5 skeins of fingering weight yarn.
MC (main color) - 2 skeins (100g each) of the same color
CC (contrast color) - 2 skeins (100g each) of the same color
AC (accent color) - 1 skein (100g) of an accent color pop
It’s important to have contrast amongst your colors in order to see the details and crisp lines in the fabric. Solid, semi-solid, and lightly speckled fingering weight yarns are all great options for this year’s shawl. Try to avoid using very busy variegated and highly speckled yarns for all of the colors. It’s okay to have some painterly splashes for some of your colors, but I recommend crisp clean contrast for this year’s shawl.

Size: The overall shape and dimensions are part of the mystery! TWISTS & TURNS will be a large shawl, similar in size to Starflake and Shawlography
Yarn: Fingering weight
Yardage: MC (main color) - 780yds / 713m
CC (contrast color) - 780yds / 713m
AC (accent color) - 390yds / 357m
You will have some leftovers, but it’s best to have the recommended amount of yarn listed above.
Needles: US 4 / 3.5mm circular in 40″ / 100cm length or size needed to obtain gauge
Notions: 10 stitch markers, cable needle, tapestry needle
It’s always good to have some extra stitch markers and split ring markers in case you want to use them to help you knit the shawl. Make sure your cable needle is about the same thickness as your knitting needle.
Gauge: 24 sts & 52 rows = 4” / 10cm in garter stitch before blocking.
