  • This is a PDF knitting pattern.

Gather a colorful pile of fingering weight yarns to knit this modular garter stitch blanket. Two strands of yarn are always held together to create melting marl color blocks. Each section is knit seamlessly by picking up stitches and attaching new sections to previous sections while you knit. Use leftover yarns from your shawls or socks and try incorporating fluffy mohair or suri alpaca yarns into your palettes for cloudy soft shapes. This blanket is a great size for your couch, so you can bundle up in all your favorite yarns as you knit your next project.

  • Finished Measurements

71″ / 180cm long, 45″ / 114cm wide measured along the center width of the blanket. Measurements taken after blocking. The dimensions of the blanket are not perfectly rectangular. One end of the blanket is a bit narrower than the other end.

    Yarn
Fingering weight held double. You can use one strand of DK or Worsted weight yarn as well for some sections.

    Yardage
Approximately 5000yds / 4572m total of fingering weight yarn

The yardage estimate represents the total amount of yarn used when you hold two strands of fingering weight yarn together.

When you hold your fingering weight yarn double, that will result in about 2500yds / 2286m of knitting. If you want to knit this blanket with one strand of DK weight for each section instead of fingering weight marled, you will need approximately 2500yds / 2286m of DK weight yarn.

The sample weighs a total of approximately 1250g. I recommend having at least 1500 – 2000g of yarn to work with, so you have plenty of color possibilities with each section.

    Needles
US 8 / 5mm circular in 40″ / 100cm length or size needed to obtain gauge. One or two spare circular needles are helpful to hold sts from previous sections until you knit with them again.

    Notions
    Tapestry needle

    Gauge
    20 sts & 40 rows = 4″ / 10cm in garter stitch after blocking
