  • This is a PDF knitting pattern.

This colorful DK weight sweater features lots of simple textured and slip stitch patterns. Begin at the top with a folded hem neckline and continue with garter stitch short rows to raise the back neck. Playful stripes and color pops decorate the yoke and body of the sweater. This project is designed to feature your single skeins of DK weight yarn from your stash. You can use worsted weight yarn as well or fingering weight held double to create your own wearable work of art.

The Fantastitch sweater is knit top-down, so you can customize the length of the body and sleeves. Gather a pile of colors and enjoy this textural landscape to paint with yarn!

  • Sizes
    XS (S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL)

XL Size (in blue) shown on a 40″ / 102cm chest circumference with 8″ / 20cm of positive ease.

    L Size (in cream/orange) shown on a 38″ / 97cm chest circumference with 6″ / 15cm of positive ease.

    Finished Measurements
    33 (35, 40, 44, 48, 52, 57, 65, 68)″ / 84 (89, 102, 112, 122, 132, 145, 165, 173)cm chest circumference. Measurements taken after lightly steam blocking.

    I recommend selecting a size that has approximately 2 – 4″ / 5 – 10cm of positive ease for a more tailored fit or choose a size with approximately 6 – 8″ / 15 – 20cm of positive ease for a baggy relaxed fit.

    Yarn
    DK weight or worsted weight

    Yardage
    Approximately 1200 (1300, 1450, 1600, 1800, 1900, 2000, 2100, 2200)yds / 1097 (1189, 1326, 1463, 1646, 1737, 1829, 1920, 2012)m total

This sweater is designed to be a stashbuster, so I recommend gather a big pile of yarn including some extra colors. You can use DK or worsted weight yarn to knit this sweater using your single skeins and leftover bits of yarn. You can also hold two strands of fingering weight yarn together for colorful stripes.

    Needles
    US 6 / 4mm circular in 40” / 100cm length or 1 size smaller than main needle
US 7 / 4.5mm circular in 40” / 100cm length for main needle or size needed to obtain gauge

Use the magic loop method for knitting smaller circumferences in the round.

    Notions
2 stitch markers, 1 split ring marker, tapestry needle, waste yarn

    Gauge
    22 sts & 44 rnds = 4″ / 10cm in brick pattern before blocking
    5.5 sts = 1″ / 2.5cm

    Brick Pattern for Gauge Swatch
I recommend swatching in the rnd for the most accurate gauge.

    CO 60 sts.

    Using MC, k 1 rnd.
    P 1 rnd.
    K 1 rnd.
    P 1 rnd.

Next 4 Rnds: Using CC, (Sl3 wyib, k9) to end of rnd.
Repeat the 4 MC rnds in garter stitch.

Next 4 Rnds: Using CC, (k6, sl3 wyib, k3) to end of rnd.
Repeat from * and try to get close to 22 sts = 4″ / 10cm.
