Speckle & Pop was originally part of the Westknits Mystery Shawl KAL 2017. The fingering weight version uses three main colors combined with five color pops for a speckletacular shawl. Fade the main colors from light to dark in the first short row section while adding contrasting eyelet stripes. Slipped stitches mix the main colors together along the edge of the shawl followed by giant yarn over holes.

Choose between two-color brioche or garter stitch for the final chevron border. Decorate the edging with a contrast color I-cord bind off. Instructions also include a large shlanket (shawl + blanket) size using DK weight yarn.

Select 3 colors of fingering weight yarns in a colorful speckled fade. I recommend 3 speckled colors, but you can also use solid colors if you prefer. I recommend a light, medium, and dark color for these 3 main colors.

Select 5 contrast colors for your color pops. These contrast pops will show best if they are different from your main colors.

    Large DK Weight Version
    Main Colors: Approximately 1400yds / 1280m total
I recommend using 7 or 8 skeins/colors for the main colors. To fade your main colors, gather a palette from light to dark. The sample shows 3 lighter main colors for SECTION 1 and darker main colors for SECTIONS 2 & 3. If you would like all sections to feature the same main colors, then I would get 3 main colors, 2 skeins each (6 total DK skeins). Then choose 1 additional dark main color (MC 3) and 1 additional light main color (MC 1) for the SECTION 3 chevron border.

Contrast Colors: Approximately 87yds / 80m of each color (shown using 5 contrast colors)

    SECTION 3
MC1 - light creamy neutral for the brioche background color
MC3 - Galaxy (dark gray) When MC 3 Galaxy color ran out, I used a medium gray color for the brioche foreground.

I recommend using 7 or 8 skeins/colors total for the MC of the DK weight version. The sample shows 3 light creamy speckles fading from light to dark in SECTION 1. SECTIONS 2 & 3 use mostly darker speckled skeins for the slipped stitches and the giant yarn overs with brioche. In SECTION 3, a dark foreground color (MC 3) will pop with high contrast against a lighter background color (MC 1).
