  • This is a PDF knitting pattern.

    This top-down cardigan is knitted using two strands of fingering weight yarn held together throughout the entire project. Stockinette stitch forms the easy-to-knit marled bands. There is a little brioche break section between each stockinette stitch stripe to help blend the color combos together. The brioche break ribbed sections produce a beautiful plump texture throughout the cardigan. Get creative and knit a multi-color version with all your fingering weight yarns or make a more focused color palette with two colors held together for the main color with two other colors held together for the contrast color. The ribbed buttonband is picked up along the front edges of the garment at the end of the project. Instructions include a video tutorial demonstrating the one-row buttonhole technique. Sew on some color pop buttons to complete this playful cozy cardigan!

  • Sizes
    1 [2, 3, 4, 5] [6, 7, 8, 9]

    Finished Measurements
    34 [38, 41, 46, 51] [56, 58, 65, 67]″ / 86 [97, 104, 117, 130] [142, 147, 165, 170]cm chest circumference. Measurements taken after blocking.

    These measurements are based on a stockinette stitch gauge of 19 sts = 4″ / 10cm. If you achieve a gauge of 20 sts = 4″ / 10cm in stockinette stitch, then these would be the finished chest circumference measurements…

    37 [41, 45, 51, 57] [63, 65, 73, 76]″ / 94 [104, 114, 130, 145] [160, 165, 185, 193]cm

    Size 4 shown with about 3″ / 8cm of positive ease. I recommend selecting a size with about 2 – 4″ / 5 – 10cm of positive ease.

    Sleeve and body lengths are customizable.

    Yarn
    Fingering weight held double

    Hold two strands of fingering weight yarn together throughout the entire sweater, resulting in a worsted weight thickness.

    Yardage
    Approximately 2050 [2250, 2600, 2900, 3250] [3600, 3950, 4150, 4350]yds / 1875 [2057, 2377, 2652, 2972] [3292, 3612, 3795, 3978]m total.

    Yarn is held double throughout, so the recommended yardage represents the total amount of yarn required. For example, if you were knitting size 1 of this cardigan with only one strand of DK or worsted weight yarn, you would need about 1025yds / 937m of yarn total.

    MC - 600 [650, 750, 850, 950] [1050, 1150, 1200, 1250]yds / 549 [594, 686, 777, 869] [960, 1052, 1097, 1143]m of each strand of yarn (color A & color B)
    CC - 425 [475, 550, 600, 675] [750, 825, 875, 925]yds / 389 [434, 503, 549, 617] [686, 754, 800, 846]m of each strand of yarn (color C & color D)

    If you are using West Wool Bicycle held double, then I estimate you will need these skein requirements…

    MAIN COLOR (colors A & B held together)
    Color A - 4 [4, 4, 5, 5] [6, 7, 7, 7] skeins West Wool Bicycle
    Color B - 4 [4, 4, 5, 5] [6, 7, 7, 7] skeins West Wool Bicycle

    CONTRAST COLOR (colors C & D held together)
    Color C - 3 [3, 3, 4, 4] [4, 5, 5, 5] skeins West Wool Bicycle
    Color D - 3 [3, 3, 4, 4] [4, 5, 5, 5] skeins West Wool Bicycle

    The pattern is written for MC & CC stripes.
    MC = Colors A & B held together
    CC = Colors C & D held together

    Needles
    US 5 / 3.75mm circular in 40″ / 100cm length or 2 sizes smaller than main needle
    US 7 / 4.5mm circular in 40″ / 100cm length or size needed to obtain gauge

    Magic loop method is used for knitting smaller circumferences in the round. Watch this Westknits video to assist with the Magic Loop technique.
