Gather a collection of sport and DK weight yarns for this color blocked pullover. The bottom up construction begins with the body and sleeves shown in solids and variegated yarns from Jill Draper Makes Stuff. The body and and sleeves showcase a deceptively simple slip stitch pattern that has a woven look. Only one strand of yarn is used during each row. The yoke uses several contrasting scrap yarns in a 1x1 stranded pattern. Neat and tidy hems with pops of color decorate the edges.

The instructions indicate where all the color changes occur, but this garment is meant to be a canvas for playing with color. Use more or less colors as you please and don’t be afraid to experiment fuzzy mohair fibers and hand dyed yarns. Reis means ‘trip’ in Dutch and this project traveled with me on several trips starting in Portland, Oregon at Happy Knits where I bought the wool.

It came back to Amsterdam where I started the sweater body. Once the sleeves were completed it accompanied me on a trip to Reykjavik, but I got distracted by petting cats and starting other projects so it lived in Iceland for a few months until I returned to Amsterdam again from another trip. After all the time passed, I decided I needed to leave the slip stitch pattern behind and start a stranded yoke with fresh colors. So, I grabbed some of my favorite scraps from my stash bins and worked the colorful yoke. I can’t wait to take my new favorite sweater on more trips!
