  • This is a PDF knitting pattern.

Combine one strand of DK weight wool together with one strand of lace weight mohair silk to knit this cozy hat. The pattern begins with 1x1 twisted ribbing that is folded to create a double-thick hem. A smocked technique gathers the twisted rib columns together for a beautiful architectural stitch detail. The fluffy West Wool Glowhair combined with the DK weight Tandem wool adds a beautiful halo to the crisp stitches.

  • Sizes
    [One Size]

Different sizes can be achieved by using a smaller or larger needle to achieve a slightly looser or tighter gauge. The sample size is worked with a gauge of 18 sts = 4″ / 10cm in 1x1 twisted ribbing. If you use a smaller needle and get 20 sts = 4″ / 10cm in 1x1 twisted ribbing, then you will get a smaller hat that is about 18″ / 46cm circumference. If you use a larger needle and get 16 sts = 4″ / 10cm in 1x1 twisted ribbing, then you will get a larger hat that is about 22.5″ / 57cm circumference.

    Finished measurements
20″ / 51cm head circumference, 9.5″ / 24cm tall from brim edge to the top of the hat. Measurements taken after blocking.

The hat is shown on a 22.5″ / 57cm head circumference. I recommend achieving a finished hat circumference that is 1 or 2 inches (2.5 – 5cm) smaller than your actual head circumference for a snug fit.

    Yarn
